Established by Usha Mirchandani as an art dealership in the late 80s in Mumbai, Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke ran a branch in Berlin from 1997 to 2003 before launching their current space in Mumbai in 2006. Presenting significant new positions in contemporary art from India - including the work of Manish Nai, Varunika Saraf, Abir Karmakar and Ratheesh T. - the gallery's portfolio also includes key artists born in the 1960s such as C.K. Rajan and Jyothi Basu. The gallery has been instrumental in bringing major international art to Mumbai, hosting solo exhibitions with Sigmar Polke, Kiki Smith, and Jonathan Meese amongst others. A two-gallery presentation of the work of Wolfgang Laib is scheduled for November 2011. Additional projects include art consulting for the Deutsche Bank collection in India, and curating the retrospective of Bhupen Khakhar at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai.
